Dec 15, 2022
ment of players being named to an All-America Team comes at the conclusion of the season. For the North Dakota State Bison football program, that isn’t the case.
As the team is getting ready for their Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Semifinal matchup with Incarnate Word in Fargo, it was announced that the Bison have five players who received Associated Press FCS All-American honors.
Paving the way for the Bison offense and finding themselves on the first team are left tackle Cody Mauch and left guard Nash Jensen. On the other side of the ball, defensive end Spencer Waege was named to the first team as well.
Waege has been a force on the defensive line, racking up 41 tackles, 15.5 tackles for a loss, and 8 sacks in 13 games this year.
Finding his way to the second team is fullback Hunter Luepke, who was given the nod as an all-purpose player. Before a season-ending injury, Luepke ran for 621 yards and 9 touchdowns, and caught 14 passes for 196 yards and 4 touchdowns in 10 games this year.
Lastly, safety Michael Tutsie was named to the third team. In 13 games this year, Tutsie has totaled 60 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, and 1 interception.
Among the group, this is Jensen’s first time being named to an All-America Team at NDSU. As a local product out of Hankinson, Mauch was named an AP All-America second teamer last year, and he, Luepke, and Waege were previously named to the HERO Sports FCS All-American Team. Tutsie found himself on the HERO Sports first team and Stats Perform third team last year.
The Bison and their All-American players will be back in action on Friday when they host Incarnate Word for their semifinal matchup and the last game in Fargo this year. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and it will be televised on ESPN2.
